Spring Theme
Theme ideas for a dance spring show?
I have to design my own dance spring show for school..any theme ideas..so i can get started.
There are really a lot of ways you can go with this, which makes your question both exciting and very intimidating. For the dance show that I am involved in this spring, for example, our theme is water. We are investigating human’s interactions with it and who actually has the power. Some specific pieces include sub-themes of violent water, flooding, pollution, and celebration of the life giving qualities of water.
Other jumping off points that have worked well in the past for our group have included the idea of restraint, freedom, groups dynamics, almost any historical event or set of historical events, and an investigation of a style of music through time.
The most important thing about coming up with a theme is being personally connected to it. You have to tailor a show’s content to your (and your fellow choreographers’, if you have any) feelings. There’s nothing worse than getting into the midst of rehearsal on a piece and realizing that you have no personal stake in it. If you don’t care then your audience isn’t going to.
