What is the radius of a cylinder’s circles when you roll up a rectangle?
Let’s say you have a paper 8 1/2 by 11 inches (a.k.a The Rectangle), and you decide to roll it’s 11 inch side together to form a cylinder. What will be the diameter/radius of the circle that is formed when you roll the paper this way? I’m trying to figure something out for my trigonometry homework.
What i meant to say is if you roll it up by its 8 1/2 side, but it doesn’t really matter either way, they both form a cylinder.
i think there’s a formula for this.
If you roll it so the 11 inch sides meet then the 8.5 inch side becomes the circumference. Knowing that circumference is given by 2*pi*r we then set that = 8.5.
Then solve for r which will turn out to be 4.25/pi
